IPL Comeback Uncertain: Rain Threatens to Dampen RCB vs KKR Showdown in Bangalore

The wait for the IPL to be well and truly back may find itself grow just a little bit longer, as inclement weather is set to play a role in Bangalore, that may play spoilsport with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders kicking things back into motion.

Bangalore and other regions of Karnataka have already seen intense rainfall over the past few days, accompanied by some flooding within the city. The week in Bangalore has indeed been quite wet, and with the latest updates on the Bengaluru rains, there is a high likelihood that this will persist through Saturday evening's match.

According to AccuWeather’s prediction for Saturday, the probability of rainfall in Bengaluru begins to increase during the afternoon and reaches its peak just as the coin toss is scheduled to occur at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

There's a predicted 25% probability of rainfall around 1 PM, which will gradually increase to reach approximately 58% by 5 PM. While showers during the afternoon remain somewhat uncertain, the cooling temperatures towards the evening make it highly likely that rain could delay the event in Bengaluru.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium has an outstanding grounds team and features what might be the nation’s top-of-the-line drainage system. This will likely prove essential since weather predictions indicate a 71% probability of rain at around 7 PM, which coincides with the scheduled time for the coin toss.

KKR have already suffered from rain-related cancellations in the IPL 2025 season.

Following that, fortunately, we have some positive developments since the probability of rainfall starts decreasing as the evening progresses, leading to an improvement in Bangalore’s weather conditions later on. Although there remains a 49% likelihood of precipitation around 9 PM and a reduced 34% afterward, this opens up possibilities for some activity.

IPL enthusiasts fervently wish for cooperative weather conditions as they eagerly anticipate the league’s resumption without encountering another cancellation. Earlier in the competition, KKR faced an entirely washed-out encounter when their game against Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens had to be called off after just one over due to heavy rains, resulting in them sharing points instead of completing the match.

RCB supporters might not appreciate the weather outlook, considering a major celebration honoring Virat Kohli’s Test cricket legacy is scheduled in the stands. Additionally, securing victory tonight would ensure their team advances to the playoffs officially, adding more incentive to clinch the game promptly.
