A dog is thought to have been ‘deliberately decapitated’ before being dumped in a shallow ditch in East Yorkshire.
A brown terrier or Staffordshire bull terrier-like canine was discovered by a hiker last Saturday in a countryside region close to Broomfleet, where Common Road intersects with Wallingfen Lane.
The decaying carcass was enclosed in a dark plastic sack and abandoned in shallow water.
The RSPCA reports that the dog’s head seemed to have been neatly severed, and the skin surrounding the shoulder area was absent, potentially as an effort to extract the microchip.
The canine is characterized as being of moderate size, featuring an extended tail and possessing a tiny white spot on its chest area. The reason for its demise remains undetermined.
RSPCA inspector Natalie Hill said: ‘It must have been so upsetting to find a dog’s body in these distressing circumstances and we’re very grateful to the member of the public for reporting the incident.
'We believe the head was intentionally detached due to the precise nature of the incision, and since the body was placed within a bag, it would be less prone to being targeted by other animals.'
'The absent skin surrounding the shoulder region might suggest that there was an effort made by somebody to intentionally take out the microchip.'
'There were no apparent indications of other wounds, but we are deeply worried about the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate dog being discovered in such a state. We urge anybody with direct knowledge of this event to come forward.'
