An English teacher who went viral on social media For a nine-minute video explaining her departure from education, she recently spoke in an interview about why students resort to using artificial intelligence for completing their homework.
'Many feel like they no longer have to put in the effort since' AI will just do it for them,' Hannah said in an interview with Fox & Friends .
Hannah mentioned that when she approached students she believed were using it, she addressed the issue directly. ChatGPT To complete their essays, they replied that they would prefer to receive a failing grade instead of putting in the effort to produce something that artificial intelligence could easily handle.
She mentioned that the students would ask her, "If I have to resubmit this work, how significantly will it impact my grade? Is it possible for me to accept a zero instead?"
Hannah further explained that she did not oppose artificial intelligence and thought it could be beneficial for older students in educational settings. However, unrestricted use of this technology hinders children from initially acquiring knowledge independently.
The ex-English instructor mentioned that she initially worked in digital marketing prior to spending three years in teaching.
She claimed to be adept in the digital realm, yet witnessing how artificial intelligence hampered students' learning ultimately led her to resign from teaching.
Hannah shared her thoughts: "Throughout my entire career in education, I've found technology to be quite a hurdle. Particularly now that AI is easily available to kids, it’s become even more daunting, especially when teaching subjects like English or what we call Core Four."
She mentioned observing comprehension and critical thinking abilities decline in classrooms and aimed to bring attention to the effects of AI on children’s education.
Hannah added that she taught many bright and motivated children, clarifying that their desire to use AI for their assignments wasn't their fault.
She mentioned that numerous students were unclear about the reason for writing extensive essays, and she often came across submissions that did not sound like they were written in the students' own voices, which made her suspect that they might have relied on ChatGPT.
Hannah began utilizing AI generators to verify if her students were employing ChatGPT for their homework, only to discover that numerous essays were entirely crafted by artificial intelligence.
The ex-instructor extensively shared her insights into contemporary classrooms through a TikTok video that garnered more than a million views.
Hannah, who instructed tenth-grade students, shared with her social media audience, "These youngsters lack reading skills."
"Since someone has read to them before, or they simply press a button for audio playback," she went on.
'Their ability to focus is diminishing. Everything requires high stimulation. They can skim through content in under a minute.'
Hannah went on to express that she has little trust in the students she teaches and mentioned that many of them seem indifferent to having an impact on the world.
She emphasized her belief that children ought to have limited access to technology and urged educators to begin incorporating more hands-on techniques back into their teaching practices.
This era is incredibly challenging," Hannah admitted. "To be honest, I feel like I lack the resilience for it. If anyone begins this journey now, my respect goes out to them. May they be blessed. I envy their strength.
