AFL Fan Discovers Sneaky Trick for Big Discounts on Food and Drinks at the Footy

  • The discount hacks aren't suited for those who are easily intimidated.
  • This follows reports that the MCG allegedly increased drink prices.

An AFL A fan has shared her hidden trick for obtaining cheaper food and beverages at the MCG, though it comes with significant risks.

TikTok This week, user @MollieRoseBennett shared a video on social media explaining how she manages to get a 50 percent discount at events.

It seemed that the social media user suggested people wanting affordable drinks and food could achieve this by dressing entirely in black and pretending to be employees to obtain discounts.

However, several viewers pointed out flaws in her approach through the comments section of the video, with one commenter noting: "Typically, you need to scan a barcode for a discount."

Someone else stated that the vendors at the MCG provide distinct wristbands for all their employees, with each event having a unique design.

In the video, the football supporter was spotted strolling along the street dressed in a dark jacket and what seemed to be a black and yellow striped Tigers scarf.

In the video snippet, the sports enthusiast remarked: "I simply attended the match at the 'G and ended up giving it a go."

When you decide to place an order for food, which is quite pricey at this spot, make sure you're dressed entirely in black and remove your scarf. Then, when it comes time to settle the bill, simply state, 'I’m part of the team.'

'In truth, it always delivers results, so you should definitely give it a shot.'

The Daily Mail Australia has reached out to the MCG for their input.

Before the start of this summer’s cricket season, reports from Channel 7 indicated that costs for food and drinks would go up.

It is known that the cost of a 425ml draft beer has increased from $11.50 to $12.

A 560ml Carlton Draught has increased from $12.50 to $13.50, whereas soft drinks such as water and Coca-Cola have gone up by 20 cents.

At the same time, reports suggested that a box of fish and chips could cost as much as $15.50, whereas it was earlier known to be priced at $14.90.

The commercial operations and partnerships manager, Tanya Gilling, informed 7News that despite the 100,024-seat venue not being shielded from the cost-of-living crisis, they would keep supporting food and beverage pricing to the best extent feasible.

In the remarks section of the TikTok clip, someone else commented: 'Bruz, I am employed there and you must present your identification to them.'

As additional personnel serve customers on the ground floor, they ask for identification.

This development follows the introduction of new self-service checkout options at certain drink stalls within the MCG over the last year. This change came about after the stadium along with its hospitality partner, Delaware North, partnered with tech company Zippin.

The outlets known as MCG Express enable fans to tap their debit cards, go into the store, pick out their beverages, and swiftly return to the action, bypassing the conventional checkout process.

The system was similarly observed in operation during this year’s Australian Open and offered attendees a smooth experience.
