
Bags of infant food sold at an American grocery store chain have been recalled For potentially having been contaminated with lead.
Publix, the supermarket chain, has announced a recall of 4-ounce plastic packages of their GreenWise Pear, Kiwi, Spinach & Pea Baby Food due to the possibility of containing increased amounts of lead.
The chain located in Lakeland, Florida , started the voluntary recall on Friday following some routine testing.
"As part of our dedication to ensuring food safety, we have taken the step of removing all affected items from every store shelf," said Publix spokesperson Maria Brous.

So far, no illnesses have been reported. Customers who bought the item should bring it back to their nearest store for a complete reimbursement.
The infant food was manufactured by Bowman Andros LLC and was sent out to Publix supermarkets throughout the eight states where the business operates — Alabama, Florida , Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
The products subject to this recall carry the GTIN number 41415-00901 and come with an expiration date of November 1, 2025.
Publix has informed the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a government body responsible for regulating and monitoring lead levels in food products.

Lead can pose serious health risks to individuals of all ages, but it is especially harmful to children.
The FDA notes that 'exposure to high levels of lead during pregnancy, infancy, and early childhood can result in neurological issues including learning disorders, behavioral problems, and reduced intelligence quotient.' website .
'The very young are especially susceptible to the possible adverse impacts of lead exposure due to their smaller body size and quick metabolic rate and development.'
Publix is the biggest employee-owned business in the nation, boasting over 260,000 associates, and operates 1,404 outlets spanning eight states.
The recall of the baby food occurred five months following this previous event. Baby spoons sold by Amazon and Aldi have been subject to recall. concerns about them potentially breaking and causing choking hazards.
