NASA has succeeded in sending men to the moon and rovers onto Mars , and probes around Saturn 's rings.
However, it appears that the space agency has not yet mastered how to create a tasty cheeseburger in orbit.
Jonny Kim, aNASA astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS) has posted an image of a 'cheeseburger' drifting in zero gravity.
Unlike the delicious fast-food meals we often indulge in on dry land, this one appears rather unappetizing.
Even though he was 260 miles away from the closest supermarket, his snack remarkably contained just five components.
This comprises a 'wheat snack bread' as the bun, a beef steak for the patty, and solidified cheese spread serving as the cheese.
"I yearn for cooking for my loved ones," the astronaut, who has been aboard the International Space Station since April 8, shared via Twitter.
He added: "Yet, this satisfies in its own unique manner."

Kim lifted off for the International Space Station aboard the Roscosmos Soyuz MS-27 spaceship on April 8, 2025, with plans to reside onboard the orbital laboratory for approximately eight months.
Ever since he arrived, Kim has kept his followers on X informed about his adventures — particularly what he’s eating.
"If your experience includes living off of MREs [meals ready to eat], you might have experimented with some inventive campfire dishes," he posted on Twitter.
'This version offers a fresh take on the ranger burger, which is among my top choices.'
Given the restricted supplies aboard the ISS, Kim had to be quite inventive with his burger-making.
He described his dish as beefsteak topped with wheat snack bread, using cheese spread as both an adhesive and a garnish, with layers of au gratin potatoes sandwiched in between, all smothered generously with gochujang red pepper paste from a care package aboard the SpX-32 Cargo Dragon," accompanied by photos of his culinary effort.
While the burger doesn't look particularly appetising, several fans have applauded his efforts.
'While innovating new Lunchables in outer space, keep up the great job,' another commenter responded.

Another addition: 'Thanks for sharing this appetizing-looking sandwich and the vistas from your space explorations so far!'
'Tremendous respect and awe.'
This isn’t the first instance where an astronaut has tried to make a cheeseburger in space.
Back in 2015, Astronaut Terry Virts shared an image via Twitter. of an oddly-shaped 'space cheeseburger' enclosed in a tortilla.
'The Baltimore-born astronaut shared, "Featuring beef patties, Russian mustard, tomato paste, cheese paste, and tortilla. It’s incredibly delicious!"'
